Ticket Type: Machupicchu City 6am-5pm + Machu Picchu Mountain

This ticket grants you general access to the citadel of Machupicchu and access to climb the mountain of Machupicchu. The Machupicchu Mountain is the mountain opposite of the Huayna Picchu Mountain and provides great alternative if the tickets for Huayna Picchu have been sold out. The climb is a little longer but less steep and less crowded. From Machupicchu Mountain you will have amazing views of the site and will also give you the chance to see the Sun Gate, where the Inca Trail actually enters the site. . The entrance to climb Machupicchu Mountain is inside the Machupicchu Citadel and you must be at the Machupicchu Mountain check point between the hours of 9am - 10am.. You can enter and leave Machupicchu as many times as you want throughout the day. But you can only enter and leave Machupicchu Mountain one time. The ticket is valid only for 1 day, and on the date indicated on the ticket.

This ticket does not allow you access to Huayna Picchu Mountain or the Machupicchu Museum. With this ticket you have access to the Sun Gate hike and the Inka Bridge hike.

You must provide your original passport along with the printed copy of your electronic ticket every time at the check point. The name on your passport and your OFFICIAL ticket must match. The ticket is non-transferrable and non-refundable.

The level of difficulty of climbing Machupicchu mountain

Machupicchu mountain trek is wide and well-marked. After the wardens hut the trail follows a fairly even ascent of about 30 – 35 degrees in angle for about 1 hour. Gradually and steadily gaining altitude, the views of Machupicchu and the surrounding mountains become ever-more impressive. There are several view and rest points along the way. As the trail gets closer to the base of Machupicchu Mountain, the steps become steeper, narrower and more challenging. Winding on for another 30 minutes or so, the trail passes through a stone gateway, before following a narrow mountain ridge to the summit. A small round hut provides shelter and seating, whilst the view point (a few more yards on) offers aw-inspiring views of Machupicchu, Huayna Picchu and Putucusi Mountains. The decent follows the same route, but takes about 20 – 30 minutes less.

What to wear to MACHU PICCHU + Machu Picchu Mountain

If you visit Machupicchu in the rainy season (December to March), you must bring warm and waterproof clothing, rain poncho and good walking shoes. On the other hand, if you visit Machupicchu in dry season (May to September), is important to protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, sunglasses, hat or brimmed hats and mosquito repellent.

It is important to stay hydrated throughout your visit, bring water in a bottle or a similar container.

The Machupicchu Mountain trek is considered to be a moderate to challenging trek. The trail is an original Inca Trail paved with stone and you will continuously ascend to the summit. A good level of fitness is required. During the wet season, the trail can become more slippery making it more challenging to traverse. Difficulty: moderate to challenging.

You must be well acclimatised to altitude before attempting this trek – the air is thin and you’ll notice the difference, no matter your level of phisical fitness! Take PLENTY of water – at least 2 litres each, plus some snacks as there are no facilities to buy refreshments after you have entered the site. Be respectful and discreet where you choose to stop and snack as food is prohibited and never leave any litter. Wear supportive hiking shoes and cool, comfortable clothing. Use sunblock, sunhat and sunglasses – the sun gets intense at this altitude. Remember your fully charged camera and spare SD cards! Otherwise, carry as little as possible!

HOW TO GET TO MACHU PICCHU + MACHU PICCHU Mountain

To get to the Machupicchu Archaeological site, first you must get to Aguas Calientes also known as Machupicchu Pueblo, the city closest and at the foot of Machupicchu Mountain and then take a 30-minute bus that will drop you off at the Machupicchu Santuary entrance check point.

You can get to Aguas Calientes, by train only. The train station in Aguas Calientes is called 'Machupicchu Station'. Once you buy your Machupicchu Tickets, you must buy your train tickets. We also recommend that you stay at Aguas Calientes for two nights. Arrive one day before your visit to Machupicchu so that you can take your time visiting Machupicchu and depart Aguas Calientes the day after your visit.

To get to the Machupicchu Museum, you simply walk about 20-30 minutes from the center of town of Aguas Calientes. Just ask any local, and they will tell you how to get there, you can't miss it. The museum is located just off the road used by the shuttle buses to go to Machupicchu. Just a few meters after the bridge that crosses the Vilcabamba River and just before the road starts to incline, a small pathway to the right leads to the museum. There are neither buses nor taxis in Aguas Calinetes, so the only way to get there is by foot. You can get to Aguas Calientes, by train only. The train station in Aguas Calientes is called Machupicchu station. Once you buy your Machupicchu Tickets, you must buy your train tickets. Bus to the entrance of Machupicchu + MACHU PICCHU Mountain

The bus ticket to the Machupicchu Archaeological site is not included. However, the city of Aguas Calientes also known as Machupicchu Pueblo is so small, that it is very easy to find the location where you can buy your bus tickets.

Buying bus tickets require no prior reservation and the bus ticket office hours are from 05:00 hrs. – 21:00 hrs. You need to present your passport to purchase bus tickets. It is recommended that you buy your bus tickets as soon as you arrive to Aguas Calientes

The first bus leaves from Aguas Calientes at 05:30 hrs arriving at Machupicchu at 06:00 hrs; from this hour the buses depart to Machupicchu when they are full usually every 10 minutes. The last bus from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu is at 15:30 hrs because the admission to the Inca citadel is only until 16:00 hrs.

Rules inside of MACHU PICCHU + Machu Picchu Mountain

  • Entrance is from 06:00 to 15:00 hrs.
  • Alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
  • Hydrating beverages must be transported in bottles.
  • Food consumption within the citadel is prohibited.
  • Pets are prohibited.
  • Littering is prohibited. There are trash bins only outside
  • Smoking is prohibited and obviously campfires.
  • Regarding baggage; only small bags and backpacks are allowed with you.
  • However if you have much luggage you can leave before entering the citadel in the hold, the use of them implies an extra cost of 3 to 5 soles.
  • Climbing, painting or damaging the Inca walls is prohibited.
  • You must be responsible of your family, if you bring children take care of them, they should not damage anything
  • There are no bathrooms inside. Use the restrooms before entering.
  • The use of walking sticks are allowed only for seniors or persons having a disability, the walking sticks should have rubber tip.
  • Respect the signs, the Sanctuary has certain areas closed. You must only walk in the authorized areas.
